{Event} 24/03- Butterz & Hardrive w/ JME, Terror Danjah, Elijah & Skilliam, Swindle, Royal-T, Champion + more

Butterz are the underground label of the moment! Returning to Cable after a successful debut last summer record labels Butterz and Hardrive team up once again to celebrate Butterz 2nd birthday and showcase a night of distinctive Grime that leans towards the dancefloor.
This time around they’ve enlisted the services of one of Grime’s most consistent and relevant MC’s, JME. As part of Boy Better Know alongside his brother Skepta, he has truly stayed loyal to his underground following and refrained from entering the pop arena like most of his peers. Recent Grime hits such as ‘96 Fuckries’, which marginally missed out on a spot in the top 40 with no promotion whatsoever, are a testament to the originality of his music and the dedication of his fans.

Hardrive label-head Terror Danjah will be joined by songstress Ruby Lee Ryder on his set after their collaboration ‘Full Attention’ last year and the impending release of ‘Let Me Be The One’ on Butterz. Except a mix of gritty instrumentals and vocals from them which will sure to have feet moving and heads bopping.

Off the back of a highly successful Rinse: 17 compilation, Elijah & Skilliam have seen their movement go from strength to strength, and will no doubt be preparing a series of exclusive tracks from their pool of undiscovered talent. Responsible for bringing Grime back to the attention electronic music audiences all over, they will be scouring their music collections for some special tunes for the night in true birthday style. To get you prepared have a listen to their recent set taken from a Rinse event at Paris’ Social Club which is sees the pair in energetic form as usual.

With an upcoming album for release out on Rinse, the rise of Royal-T has been nothing else but well deserved. He’s remixed everyone from Yasmin to Wiley to Katy B as well as being part of one of Butterz biggest hits to date, ‘Boo You’ which featured P.Money. The lead single from the album ‘Inside The Ride’ is an aggressive dancefloor bubbler that nods towards his love for 2-step Garage drum patterns and piano melodies. Check out his recent interview with We Fear Silence which contains his mix of some of his best work of 2011.
After releasing the infectious ‘Ignition’ which featured Footsie and Nadia Suliman, Croydon native Swindle has become somewhat of a one-stop shop for his blend of Grime and Funk. His sets are energetic but ooze soul in abundance – which is why his music has been supported by the likes of Annie Mac and Mistajam and his upcoming collaboration with Deep Medi’s Silkie will definitely be a fixture in many DJ’s sets this year.
Heading up his label Formula Records, Champion is hotly tipped for big things in 2012. Straddling between UK Funky, Grime and House the producer has come on leaps and bounds over the past year as he’s released a slew of hits such as ‘Motherboard’ Lighter’ and the vocal anthem, ‘Sensitivity’. His set from the last event at Cable was definitely an eye-opener for the uninitiated with stern basslines and syncopated rhythms. For an idea of where he’s at now look no further than his recent podcast for XLR8R magazine which included forthcoming material on Butterz.

Hardrive’s D.O.K will also be stepping up for a rare DJ set and after the contagious offering of ‘West Coast’ which was released on Hyperdub last year and Rinse FM’s UK Funky kingpin Marcus Nasty will be playing his mix of dark and utterly danceable cuts that has seen remain a mainstay in clubs up and down the UK over the past few years.
Like any good birthday party feel free to bring friends and gifts as there will be plenty of treats in store on the night to mark yet another chapter in the Butterz and Hardrive chronicles.
