JOKER + ROYAL T + STAR ONE + DELS @ The Nest 16/03/12
The Nest in Dalston, London have really set the pace in 2012 with stellar lineups each week for a ridiculously cheap price. The lineup on Friday 16th March is particularly special combining a pioneer of the Dubstep scene with some of the freshest and exciting talent to emerging from the UK Underground scene.
> JOKER (4AD)
> ROYAL T (Rinse / Butterz)
> DELS LIVE (Ninja Tune)
> STAR ONE (Deja Vu FM)
> TIMZED (BNTL)
With one of the biggest indie album releases of last year (The Vision – 4AD) and a back-catalogue comprising of some of the most unique and recognisable dubstep tracks created, Joker’s work has propelled itself far away from the West Country bedroom studio he started out in. Since the ‘Gully Goon Estate’ days, Joker has maintained his focus on the neon grime synth cause, packing serious bassline and drum work with every release.
Joker is joined by one of the bass scene’s youngest and most promising talents. Releasing on the prolific grime imprint, Butterz, and lined-up for an album release this year on Rinse, Royal-T straddles old garage and new grime with a finesse that succeeds his years. From the skippy, bassline tinged remix of “Oo Aa Ee” to his more recent Katy B reworks, 2012 is undoubtedly Royal-T’s year.
Signed to Wiley’s Big Dada imprint on Ninja Tune, DELS’ recent performance on Boiler Room sent the cyber world into a spin. The four piece live outfit debut at The Nest this week, alongside ex-Fuck Buttons member Blanck Mass and his unique strain of high-intensity, overly emotive electronica.
Star One, two brothers from Kent are a talented DJ and production duo with a unique sound encompassing the genres that have formed in the post UK Garage era. Having worked with Toddla T and delivering a sick remix of Jamie Woon-Lady Luck they also showcase the best in UK Underground talent on their weekly show on DeJaVuFM.
